Voice Over IP - Security and SPIT
نویسندگان
چکیده
Voice-over-IP (VoIP) has become an attractive alternative to the plain old telephone system, especially due to the much lower communication costs. However, there are several threats. In this document, several such threats are discussed. Moreover, we ask whether these systems could be used in environments with very high security demands as they for example exist in the Swiss army. ∗Computer Systems Group, ETH Zurich †Microsoft Switzerland ‡Distributed Computing Group, ETH Zurich

A game-theoretic analysis of preventing spam over Internet Telephony via audio CAPTCHA-based authentication
Spam over Internet Telephony (SPIT) is a potential source of disruption in Voice over IP (VoIP) systems. The use of anti-SPIT mechanisms, such as filters and audio CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing Test to Tell Computer and Humans Apart) can prevent
متن کاملA Prevention System for Spam over Internet Telephony
Internet Telephony is realized by way of instant messaging and the transmitted data are voice rather than text packets, therefore it is more difficult to identify and/or prevent Spam over Internet Telephony (SPIT) than SPAM junk e-mail. With the rising popularity of Voice over IP (VOIP), SPIT becomes a serious issue on security nowadays. This paper proposed an effective SPIT defense system, w...
متن کاملUser-Profile Framework against a Spit Attack on VoIP Systems
Spam over Internet Telephony is becoming a large problem of the Voice over IP Architectures. Voice over IP has become a valid alternative to the Public Switched Telephone Network and it has a new paradigm for providing telephony services at a lower cost and higher flexibility. In the meantime, with Voice over IP the privacy becomes so hard and the benefits introduced are as strong as the securi...
متن کاملASPF: An Adaptive anti-SPIT Policy-based Framework
SPam over Internet Telephony (SPIT) is a rising IP voice telephony threat. Voice over IP enables the transmission of telephone calls over the Internet, as opposed to plain old telephone service. Internet Telephony essentially means low-cost phone calls, i.e. a clear benefit for both consumers and businesses, which may also lead to cheap methods of mass advertising. Still, industry observers war...
متن کاملSecurity testing of session initiation protocol implementations
The mechanisms which enable the vast majority of computer attacks are based on design and programming errors in networked applications. The growing use of voice over IP (VOIP) phone technology makes these phone applications potential targets. We present a tool to perform security testing of VOIP applications to identify security vulnerabilities which can be exploited by an attacker. Session Ini...
